Personal Games

Along with student games and professional games, I've made games on my own time.
I've participated in a few game jams, such as the Global Game Jam and Ludum Dare.

My submission for the Global Game Jam 2017. The theme: "waves."

This game started with the wave technology, where the spring motion of one block transfers its energy to adjacent blocks. Once I got the tech down, I molded it into a 2-player soccerish game. Overall, the development process went pretty smooth.

The audience response to this game was very positive! Pretty much everyone who played the game enjoyed it, and several players gave it their "Best Gameplay" vote. I'm pretty proud of how this one turned out, especially since it was made in less than 48 hours.

Don't take my word for it, though. Try the game out yourself!

I made this project for Ludum Dare 32, with the theme "An Unconventional Weapon."

In this game, color theory is the unconventional weapon. You fire colored bullets at your opponent. Bullets of the same color push the enemy back. Bullets of the opposite (complimentary) color destroy the enemy.

Swap Pong

I made this project for Mini Ludum Dare 58, with the theme PONG.

I had two design goals with this game. First, I wanted to make this game as "juicy" as possible, adding visual and audio feedback to every event in the game. When the ball bounces off the wall, the wall itself bends, making the ball feel bouncier. When the ball hits a paddle, it spawns particles and becomes tinted with the color of the paddle it hit.

My second goal with this game was to challenge what it means to be competitive. The big gimmick of the game is the Spacebar button; when either player presses it, the player's controls are swapped: Player 1 controls what was Player 2's paddle and vice versa. When you can swap which paddle you control at will, who actually wins?

Spective Scientific

  • Made in PowerPoint
  • PC / Mac (PowerPoint file)

This game was my submission for the 2014 Global Game Jam. The theme for this jam was "We don't see things as they are, but as we are."

Inspired by my old high school projects, I decided to make this game entirely in PowerPoint. The player discovers the interactive story by clicking on elements in various slides.

This project turned a few heads during the jam, and won the "Most Unique Platform" award.
